What is a Switch-Activated Game?
For those unfamiliar, switch-activated games are designed for individuals who may not be able to interact with standard game controls. Instead, these games are controlled using a switch, a button-like device that can be activated with various parts of the body. When the switch is pressed, it triggers an action in the game.
The PE Chef Spaghetti and Meatball Curl Ups Game
We used Tarheel Gameplay amazing website to adapt the PE Chef Spaghetti and Meatball Curl Ups video, turning it into an interactive game. The game pauses the video and waits for the player to press the switch to continue, making it an engaging experience that combines physical activity with interactive gameplay.
For ease of access, the game has been designed to be compatible with the Don Johnson Switch Interface. However, we understand that not everyone may have access to specialized equipment. So, we’ve made it versatile! If you’re using an iPad, you can simply tap the screen to activate the switch. Alternatively, the space bar on a standard keyboard works just as well.
Experience It in Action!
We’ve prepared two additional videos for you to explore:
Gameplay Demonstration: This video showcases the game in action, giving you a firsthand look at how the switch-activated mechanism works with the PE Chef video.
RATE 2023 Conference Presentation: For those of you who missed the RATE 2023 conference, fear not! We’ve recorded my presentation where I delve into the inspiration behind this game, the collaboration with Tarheel Gameplay, and the potential of switch-activated games in adapted PE.
