October 2025 Notes
I have just returned from a great couple of days in Minnesota for the 50th Anniversary of MNDAPE. What a great and dedicated leadership team they have and the attendees were full of enthuisiasm. I really liked the state of MN too, from Juicy Lucy’s, to meat raffles, to pull tabs (these guys love a gamble), and the friendliest people too! Check my instagram post below for some pics :)

✨🌟 Teacher Spotlight 🌟✨
Each week, we highlight an inspiring educator in Adapted PE, showcasing their strategies, successes, and impact on students
⭐ Teacher Spotlight: Steve Eggerichs

With 22 years of teaching experience, Steve has made a lasting impact on Adapted PE in Minnesota and beyond. He has guided and mentored countless student teachers from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, and his influence can be seen in classrooms across the region.
When I was at the MNDAPE Conference last week, it honestly felt like everyone knew Steve. Whether it was through student teaching, professional collaboration, or his years of dedicated service, his name came up again and again. His reputation is built on strong relationships, deep knowledge, and a genuine commitment to our field. Steve is especially known for his work in adventure instruction, where his passion as an outdoorsman truly shines.
One of Steve’s most impactful contributions is the transition program he has developed—focused on giving students the tools they need to leave school ready to live active, healthy, and independent lives. His thoughtful and student-centered approach has helped shape positive outcomes for so many young people.
If you ever get the chance to see Steve present—grab it with both hands. His sessions are packed with insight, practical strategies, and a clear love for the work we do.
And above all else, Steve is simply a great colleague and human being. We’re proud to recognize his achievements and grateful for everything he brings to our APE community.

🗂️ The Just Adapt It Files

In this episode, we invite you to rethink what inclusion in education truly means—shifting from outdated notions of simply placing disabled students in integrated classrooms toward a deeper focus on their lived experiences of belonging, acceptance, and value. Drawing on the work of Justin A. Haegele and Anthony J. Maher, we explore how authentic inclusion is dynamic and relational, shaped by students’ feelings moment to moment across diverse educational settings. Together, we’ll examine the importance of amplifying disabled students’ voices, challenging ableism and power imbalances, and reimagining educational spaces where every learner is not only present but genuinely seen, heard, and valued.

The APE Advocate is a new interactive tool to help parents, educators, and administrators navigate Adapted Physical Education (APE). Drawing from IDEA, Section 504, and the ADA, it provides clear guidance on evaluations, IEPs, eligibility, and student rights in PE. Still in training, it’s not legal advice—but it’s a powerful resource to support inclusion and advocacy.
