✨🌟 Teacher Spotlight 🌟✨
Each week, we highlight an inspiring educator in Adapted PE, showcasing their strategies, successes, and impact on students
Teacher Spotlight: Justin Lund (Again)
We’re excited to feature Justin Lund, Adapted Physical Education teacher at Poplar Bridge Elementary School, in our Teacher Spotlight for the second time! Justin is the 2022 MNSHAPE Adapted PE Teacher of the Year and the 2024 SHAPE America Central District Adapted PE Teacher of the Year. This month, he shared an awesome series of March Madness-inspired basketball activities designed specifically for Adapted PE. His creativity, energy, and commitment to inclusive physical education continue to shine and inspire across the APE community.
Get ready for March Madness! This week I’ll share my favorite #AdaptedPE #PhysEd 🏀 adaptations! The first one, you ask? Well that has to be adapted equipment! Give options for Ss of all abilities to be successful. It can be hard to teach good form even on 8’ hoops! pic.twitter.com/jC13uNBDqe
— Justin Lund (@MrJustinLund) March 10, 2025
#AdaptedPE 🏀 tip #2/5: Progressions! In everything you do, start easy and work your way up. A great way to do that is 🌈 shooting! Once the student makes it at the first spot, they get to move to the next one. It’s a great way to give visuals, mark progress, and make it fun! pic.twitter.com/8jKFRnQ3xF
— Justin Lund (@MrJustinLund) March 11, 2025
#AdaptedPE 🏀 tip #3/5: Use hula hoops! They make great targets for any passing or shooting. These ones hanging can be great for chest passes or beginner shooters. You can even set one down between partners for a bounce pass! pic.twitter.com/aRmdi1peg4
— Justin Lund (@MrJustinLund) March 12, 2025
#AdaptedPE 🏀 tip #4/5. Dribbling can be such a tough skill! Here’s a fantastic adaptation I got from the amazing @DigitTheAPE. Use a volleyball trainer & connect the bungee cords to anything you have. It can eliminate barriers to attempting dribbling and build confidence! pic.twitter.com/LnikHoIEQL
— Justin Lund (@MrJustinLund) March 13, 2025
#AdaptedPE 🏀 tip #5/5. Use visuals (for everything)! Dribbling in/out of cones is a hard concept to grasp. I added a green spot to start, arrows for the path, then 🔴 to finish. This 👧 then crushed it! This is a great lead-up skill to dribbling in space then small-sided games! pic.twitter.com/FFvm3qUmK7

Bridging Ability and Activity with Assistive Technology in Adapted P.E.

We’re looking forward to our upcoming presentation, “Bridging Ability and Activity with Assistive Technology in Adapted PE,” happening this Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 8:00–9:00 AM in Room 314–315 at SHAPE America in Baltimore!
Join Jeff Watkins, Nicole McCoy, and (hopefully!) myself, Matt Barker, for an interactive session exploring how assistive technology is transforming the way we support students in Adapted PE.
I’m currently under the weather and remain hopeful that I’ll be well enough to attend—but no matter what, I know Jeff and Nicole will do an incredible job leading this important conversation.
Don’t miss it!
Autism Awareness Week: Celebrating Neurodiversity

This week, we recognize Autism Awareness Week, a time to celebrate the unique strengths, talents, and perspectives of individuals on the autism spectrum. In Adapted PE, we embrace the diversity of our learners and strive to create an environment where every student feels seen, supported, and successful.
Autism is a spectrum, which means that no two people experience it the same way. Some students may benefit from visual schedules, extra processing time, or quieter spaces. Our goal is to meet students where they are, using inclusive strategies that support their growth—physically, socially, and emotionally.
Let’s continue to foster empathy, understanding, and respect in our classrooms and gymnasiums. 💙
🔹 Did you know? April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day. Consider wearing blue to show your support!
