Bridging Ability and Activity with Assistive Technology in Adapted P.E.
Countdown to SHAPE America 2025 – Baltimore!
We’re gearing up for our presentation, “Bridging Ability and Activity with Assistive Technology in Adapted PE,” happening at SHAPE America in Baltimore! Join Jeff Watkins, Nicole McCoy, and Matt Barker on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM (Room 314-315) for an interactive session on how assistive technology is transforming adapted physical education.
This week’s Assistive Technology Highlight: 🏐 Switch Adapted Bump/Set/Spike 🏐
In this week’s featured video, we highlight a switch-adapted bump and set system, expertly crafted by Nicole McCoy. With the press of a switch, students can bump and set a volleyball, creating an engaging, team-based experience where a third player strikes the ball out of the air. This adaptation showcases how inclusive design can bring everyone into the game!
Stay tuned each week as we share more exciting assistive technology leading up to our session! See you in Baltimore!
Feeling the Game: Innovative Tech Brings Basketball to Life for Visually Impaired Fans
Imagine experiencing a basketball game through touch—feeling every dribble, pass, and shot in real-time. What started as a student project is now transforming accessibility at Portland Trail Blazers games, giving visually impaired fans a whole new way to engage with live sports.
🏀 Watch to see how this groundbreaking technology is making sports more inclusive!
