- Rules:
- 1-4 students is designated as the “it” person with pool noodles.
- The other players run around the playing area trying to avoid being tagged by the “it” person.
- If a player is tagged, they must hold their hands together above their head and become a “banana”.
- A “banana” can be “peeled” back into the game by having a teammate separate their hands.
- The last player remaining who is not a “banana” wins.
Variations:
- Make the game more challenging by adding more “it” people or by making the playing area smaller.
- Make the game more cooperative by having the “bananas” work together to help each other get “peeled”.
- Add a creative element to the game by having the players act out different scenarios from the book as they play. For example, the “it” people could pretend to be the bad banana and the other players could pretend to be Pete the Cat and his friends.
Assessment:
Observe the students during the game to assess their ability to move their bodies in different ways, work together as a team, and use their imaginations. You can also ask the students questions about the game, such as:
- What was your favorite part of the game?
- How did you work together as a team?
- What creative things did you do during the game?
This lesson is a fun and challenging way for students to practice their physical fitness, teamwork, and creativity. It is also a great way to introduce them to the book Pete the Cat and the Bad Banana by James Dean.
