Presenter: Myles Place Foundation

Through their diverse range of recreational events, adaptive sports, and inclusive activities, they aim to enhance physical health, nurture social connections, and cultivate a sense of belonging.
Title: “Utilizing Paraeducators in PE” & “Lieberman/Brian Inclusion Rating Scale for Physical Education Intervention” (hybrid session)
Presenter: Dr. Lauren Lieberman
Bio: World renowned Distinguished Service Professor from SUNY Brockport. She has been awarded several local, statewide, national and international awards throughout her career. Her research interests include children who are blind, deaf, deaf-blind in physical education, sport recreation, and inclusion strategies. Dr. Lieberman is the founder of Camp Abilities. Camp Abilities is an educational sports camp with one-on-one instruction. But for children who are visually impaired, it’s one week where running and jumping and making new friends IS a given. She has written over 18 books, over 125 articles and spoken internationally many times. She has left – and is continuing to leave – a legacy for children and professionals.

Presenter: Matthew Barker
Bio: Adapted PE teacher in Fairfax County Virginia, creator of “Just Adapt It.” His mission is Equipping Educators to Empower Students to Live Healthy Happy Lives. He assists educators passionate about inclusive and accessible physical activities for students with diverse abilities. He has created several platforms to provide staff with a wealth of valuable tools, ideas, and collaboration opportunities to enhance teaching experiences and create an inclusive learning environment.
Title: “Standards Based Goal Writing”
Presenter: Catie King and Carmen Franco
Bio: Carmen Franco is an Adapted Physical Education (APE) Specialist with the Region 10 Educational Service Center. She consults with educators in districts surrounding the DFW metroplex and provides professional development in adapted physical education and physical activity when the opportunity arises. Her career in Special Education spans over 12 years where she has held the position as Adapted PE teacher, Curriculum Specialist, and currently, Adapted PE Specialist. She has a passion for developing IEPs which are cross curricular, standards based, and align with student strengths. Her work will continue to evolve as her curiosity leads her to the areas of greatest need. Carmen holds a certification in special education and physical education. Her Bachelors and Masters degree are in Kinesiology with a speciality in Adapted Physical Education which she earned from Texas Woman’s University.
